PROMISE Induction Services for Candidates Teaching in High Need Schools

PROMISE Coaching and Mentoring Opportunities
  • Site-based Induction Teams provide meaningful year-long learning opportunities derived from the School Improvement Plan (SIP)
  • District's New Educator Support System (NESS) provides On-site Instructional Coach and District Liaison guidance
  • New Teacher's Academy (NTA) connects the new educator with a cadre of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) to assist with the development of instructional units integrating reading, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and high yield learning strategies
  • The Teaching and Leadership Center's (TLC) online cadre of mentors to provide follow-up learning communities for the professional development opportunities provided through PROMISE
PROMISE Professional Development Offerings through the joint partnership between Broward's HRD and TLC

  • NTA's week-long preparation workshops designed for creating a successful classroom learning environment
  • Teaching in the Critical Content Area provides hands-on opportunities to learn of technological resources developed for Broward School Teachers
  • A blended delivery methods of TLC's Classroom Management seminars coupled with Dr. Sprick's Champs: A Proactive & Positive Approach to Classroom Management
PROMISE Certification options offered through our partnership between Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and Nova Southeastern University (NSU)
  • Certification opportunities through FAU with graduate coursework available in Reading from NSU
  • 15 semester hours of non-traditional course-by-course undergraduate and graduate college credit through FAU. The professional education courses are available in the following areas:
    • classroom management systems and creating safe learning environments
    • curriculum and special methods of teaching in the content area
    • educational assessment to include the content measured by the state achievement tests and interpretation of data to improve student achievement
    • effective instructional strategies including the needs of diverse learners
    • foundations of research-based practices in teaching reading
    • human development and learning
  • Graduate level courses offered by NSU with research-based practices in teaching reading through the district's Virtual University
